If you are a resident of Salt Lake City and live south of 3300 S, you have probably noticed that there are very few areas, if any, within a few miles of you where you can let your dog run legally off-leash. If you have time to pack up and head up to the canyons, you can take your dog on a hike, but what if you don't have a couple hours every day for hiking, or what if you are not physically capable of hiking for very long?
Well, if you have a large or high-energy dog that doesn't seem to get enough exercise walking around the block on a leash, you don't have a lot of other off-leash choices.. There are only 3 dog parks south of 2700 S; one in Taylorsville, one in Sandy and one in West Jordan....not very convenient if you live in Murray, Holladay, Cottonwood Heights, or almost anywhere on the west side.
Dogs NEED exercise! I don't know about you, but I love watching my dogs run off-leash because I know they feel free when they do, they can run at full speed, chase each other and play games that wear them out, and they get to happily stop and sniff or pee whenever they want. We may not understand the thrill of that, but for our dogs, it is like going to Disneyland!
I've decided to take on the challenge of working with our local governments to bring awareness to the issue of not having enough dog parks conveniently located throughout Salt Lake County. If you are interestd in this issue as well, please take a moment to sign the following petition and help get the ball rolling. Let's get some more safe areas for our dogs to run off-leash in Salt Lake City!
